What is disruption?

Our second client for The Engine is a small group of excluded high school students from Beaumont Leys - in partnership with Cooke E Learning.  If there is anyone who knows about disruption it is this group of kids.  The main reason they are in alternative education is because they know exactly how to shake things up - and they love doing it.

The energy in a business planning session with these guys is through the roof.  To any business owner reading this, I challenge you to innovate by inviting these kids into your board meeting!!  If you are unlucky then the flow of their butane entertainment show will be against you, and you are as likely to achieve on your aims, as change the tides of the sea.  But pivot your business model facilitation to include their direction of travel and then you really get results!!

By the end of an hour and a half session they produced 2 business models, and this was their second session!!  I expect productivity to go up as they learn the value proposition and business model canvas from the wonderful team at Strategyzer.  In canvas production terms this is quite low, but if I compare it to sessions I have done with trustees, who also disrupt business planning continuously with ethical concerns, I think they did a great job.

I am attaching their business model for wine.  Why not sell it like a utility company and buy it by the truckload??
